Mother Nature’s Antidepressant: Study Says Turmeric Better than Prozac

Emerging data is pointing to the inflammatory response in the immune system, in particular, as a potentially important contributor to the pathophysiology of depression. This theory may explain why many depression patients have consistently high levels of inflammation, suggesting that inflammation is not a side effect of depression, but rather the cause of it. Patients with major depressive disorder exhibit all of the features of an inflammatory response. Concluding that there are more effective ways to treat patients that experience depression and those that don’t respond to antidepressant medications or therapy.

Editors Note: This study, specifically compared Prozac and Curcumin, the results were phenomenal! This study provides clinical evidence that turmeric is better than prozac at treating depression!

Delicious Turmeric Recipes

Not only could turmeric replace antidepressants and the hundreds of chilling side effects that come with them, you can even have a little fun creating a variety of teas, lemonades and elixirs for various flavors and boosts. Here are a few recipes to try:

1.Turmeric ginger tea

ginThe ginger cardamom and turmeric are warming spices with a variety of health benefits. Ginger and turmeric both hold anti inflammatory properties so this drink is double the potency.

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 2 tablespoons of your milk of choice
  • Maple syrup, agave, honey or stevia

Bring water to boil with turmeric and ginger, turn down heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Stir in milk and sweeten to taste.

2. Turmeric Lemonade

lemonThis turmeric beverage is not only pack with powerful health benefits but will also give you a boost in energy.

  • 4 cups of cold water.
  • 2 Tbsp of freshly grated or powdered turmeric.
  • 4 Tbsp 100% maple syrup, honey or stevia to sweeten
  • 1 lemon or lime.

Mix ingredients in a pitcher add lemon and sweeten to taste.

3. Warm Turmeric Milk

Turmeric better than prozacAlso known as “golden milk”, this is great as a before bed beverage. Warm milk is also known as a natural sedative.

  • 2 cups your milk of choice
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 piece star anise
  • Maple syrup, agave, honey or stevia for sweetness.

Combine all ingredients except sweetener in a small saucepan on low heat, stir and cook until warm. Sweeten to taste.
